Dear Readers,

I can’t believe how fast summer is flying by! I hope everyone is taking in every moment. My family made a fun “to-do” list of things we wanted to experience this summer. I was thankful someone added in “lazy days at home” because those are my favorite! I have grown up in The Woodlands area since 1980, and summer days are some of my favorite memories. It has been so fascinating to watch The Woodlands grow and change so much over the years. We are blessed to live in this community. In the remaining weeks of summer, please consider taking advantage of all our fabulous hotel/resorts, pools, golf courses, and many fun indoor activity centers.

The hot summer hasn’t stopped you from joining in on giving back through all the charity events that continue to inspire me. One of my favorites was hosted by Mercedes-Benz of The Woodlands, “A Pet-Riotic Day Out” benefiting Montgomery County Animal Shelter, Westie and Scottie Rescue of Houston, and the Houston Animal Rescue Team.

I will continue to be out and about this month, so you too can be “Scene in The Woodlands!” Keep me posted on your upcoming events! I LOVE to hear from you! If you would like to send high resolution photos from your events, please email them original size (with names attached) to whitney@gmont.com.

Be the Change,

Whitney

Tea On The Lawn

The 9th Annual Tea on the Lawn marked New Danville’s 13th year serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Tea on the Lawn spring luncheon was created to raise awareness and vital funds for the New Danville community’s Life Enrichment and JOBS programs. Keeping with tradition, guests wore their finest hats while browsing through New Danville’s Marketplace which features its clients’ unique hand-crafted products. All products are produced and packaged at New Danville. This year’s guest speaker was Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino, who delivered a heartwarming message. Couture For A Cause

The American Cancer Society held its 2nd annual Couture for a Cause of Montgomery County. There was a mix of high fashion with 1920’s flair and the extravagance of The Great Gatsby!  Guests enjoyed cocktails, delicious bites from local eateries, plenty of ‘20s entertainment, a silent auction, and a fashion show featuring models, all of whom are local cancer survivors. The American Cancer Society has a mission to eliminate cancer by helping fund ground-breaking research, in addition to supporting acclaimed patient programs and services for cancer patients and their families.  The goal is to save more lives by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer.

“Mr. Wonderful – It Suits You” Pageant For Boys And Men

We See Abilities partnered with The Woodlands Young Entrepreneurs Network (TWYEN) to present “Mr. Wonderful – ‘It Suits You!'” The June 24 event was held in Hughes Landing in the beautiful amphitheater. This event made a positive impact by presenting the first and only pageant for special needs boys and men. Participants, ranging in age from 18 months to adults, definitely “WOW”ed the crowd with their best stuff in hopes to be crowned “Mr. Wonderful.” Participants had three categories available — Talent (optional); Sportswear; and Suits (whatever “suits” you!) This event complemented the “Ms. Amazing” pageant for special needs girls, “Celebrating Abilities Since 2007.” Based in The Woodlands area, We See Abilities is a nonprofit organization that builds confidence by highlighting the abilities of people who are intellectually disabled through the joy of sports and community activities.
