15th Annual Woodlands Event Moved To Oct.28-29

The 15th Annual Fall Home & Garden Show at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, 1601 Lake Robbins Drive will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and children 12 years and younger can attend for free. Homeowners, whether affected by the recent hurricane or not, will save time and money by finding what they’re looking for with one stop – from products and ways to prepare for the next tropical event to the latest in energy-efficient window designsand outdoor living.

“Hurricane Harvey brought a tremendous amount of water to the area, moving repairs and preventive improvements to the top of the to-do list of many homeowners, and our goal is to help in any way we can,” Tony Wood, president of Texwood Shows Inc., said. “In a continued effort to support the neighborhoods affected by the floods, 50 percent of the proceeds from the Fall Home & Garden Show will be donated to the Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity and other charities, which are helping fellow Texans in their ongoing recovery efforts.”

Among the attending experts taking The Woodlands Lifestyles & Homes Magazine HOME IDEAS Stage are Nature’s Way Resources’ John Ferguson, who will address the necessity of “Rebuilding the Health of Your Lawn and Garden after Harvey – It All Starts With the Soil,” and Mark Bowen, sharing his knowledge of “Plants for Flood Damaged Landscapes.” In addition, Diane Cowen, the architecture and design writer for the Houston Chronicle, will speak on how great design, which is more affordable and accessible than ever, can turn any house into a haven, and will provide trends and ideas to help update or re-invent any room in your home.

An especially timely topic, “How to Save and Organize Your Paper Photos after a Flood or Hurricane,” will be addressed by Certified Professional Organizer Ellen Delap, who will share ways to rescue water-soaked photos as well as the most effective ways to organize and back up print photos, and Randy Lemmon, host of KTRH 740 AM’s GardenLine, will broadcast his show live on Saturday, and will speak on “Post Harvey Horticultural Recovery” on both days of the show. In addition, Lemmon will host a one-on-one Q&A/book-signing for his latest, Texas Tough Gardening, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sherwin-Williams Certified Color Consultants also will take the stage to present “Best Fall Colors and Trends” on each day of the show and will be available throughout the weekend to provide their expert advice from the Sherwin-Williams Color Snap booth.

Always a crowd-favorite, Dr. Lori Verderame, star appraiser of the Discovery Channel’s Auction Kings and the History Channel’s The Curse of Oak Island, will present Dr. Lori’s Antiques Appraisal Comedy Show at noon and 2 p.m. on each day of the show, providing, as time permits, historical facts and appraisals of antiques, collectibles and family heirlooms submitted by those in attendance.

Accomplished local artists will, throughout the show, create artwork in their chosen medium live from the all-new Fine Arts Gallery and Demonstrations Stage, which will be coordinated by Tom LaRock of Tom LaRock Paintings.

Mary Scalli, owner of Houston’s Simple Elegance and Centurion Hunter Douglas Dealer, will take the stage Saturday to present “Fashion in Motion – Combining Today’s Hottest Hunter Douglas Window Fashions with the NEW PowerViewMotorization,” providing information on the manufacturer’s products, including its new Style Shutters, Designer Roller Shades, the latest technology in window coverings. Scalli returns to the show on Sunday to present “The Secret to Selling Your Home Quickly & For Top Dollar” in which she will explain how to set the scene to create immediate buyer interest and receive the highest sales price in a program entitled “The Staged Homes Advantage.”

Whether updating the look of a home or building new, homeowners will have an opportunity to visit with experts from Renewal by Anderson. With windows available in a wide range of features and options, company representatives will be manning its booth throughout the show to provide guidance through the process of selecting the right window design as well as the right glass option to help keep the heat of
the scorching Texas sun outside where it belongs.

For outdoor chefs who are looking for a way to cook up a quick, healthy, environmentally friendly meal, a visit to Le Griddle Cooking Stage by Cunningham Gas is an absolute must. With four presentations on each day of the show, French chefs Eric and Remy will demonstrate their invention, Le Griddle, a stainless steel French Grill with a 30-inch cooking plate. The chefs will share tips, recipes and samples while supplies last.
