The Woodlands Townships’ lifeguards placed first and third in the team competition at the 29th annual Texas Superguard Competition.
THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP LIFEGUARDS EXCEL AT REGIONAL COMPETITIONS – The Woodlands Township lifeguards wrapped up successful regional competitions, bringing home a variety of first-, second- and third-place finishes.The competition season began with first- and third-place finishes at the 29th annual Texas Superguard Competition. Ten teams of lifeguards from The Woodlands community pools participated in this event in College Station. The competition consisted of four team scenarios, which included CPR, first aid, and spinal management.
Allison Roberts placed first for Overall Individual Female and Cameron Kubacki placed second for Overall Individual Male. The team placings were: first place – Kellie Pierce, Allison Roberts, Austin Mankiewicz and Ashton Johnson; third place – Ana Forero, Caitlin Hamilton, Julien Clayton and Andrew Novak.
Two Township lifeguard teams competed in the North Texas Guard Games in Lewisville. One of the teams, with members Caroline Pierce, Michelle Nicholson, Austin Mankiewicz and Brock Gerard, placed second in the spinal event and third in the scanning event.
The Township also sent four teams to Texas Open Lifeguard Competition, which consisted of a written test, first aid scenario, CPR scenario, extrication, scanning video, rescue tube relay, passive victim recovery relay, and submerged victim rescue.
One of the four teams, The Woodlands Undertow, took second-place overall, and first place in the Waterpark Division. Team members are: Caroline Pierce, Michelle Nicholson, Karina Mankiewicz, Austin Mankiewicz, Zach Mankiewicz, Tom Gleason, Brock Gerard and Kent Doerries.
By placing in the top three positions at one of the regional lifeguard competitions, The Woodlands Township participated in the 2011 Texas State Lifeguard Championship in Waco.
